Biography

With playing that has been described as “polished and very engaging” by violinist Veronique Mathieu, Japanese Canadian Alicia Ingalls is an award-winning violinist. She began studying the violin at the age of 4 in her hometown of New Brunswick, where she proceeded to the Provincial Music Festival 5 times as a soloist. She moved on to represent New Brunswick in the National Music Festival at the age of 15. Winner of the Award of Excellence at the Fredericton Music Festival in 2013 and 2018, Alicia has been concertmaster of the Fredericton Youth Orchestra. She was given the opportunity of doing an apprenticeship with the New Brunswick Symphony Orchestra during their 2018 season. 

After moving to Ottawa, she became the concertmaster of the Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes de l’Ontario Français, the Orchestre à cordes Senior de De La Salle, and the Ottawa Junior Youth Orchestra. She had her solo debut at the age of 16, playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes de l’Ontario français. The same year, she performed the Vivaldi Summer Concerto with the Orchestre à cordes Senior de De La Salle, touring countries of ex-Yugoslavia and Italy. 

She has participated in several summer music festivals, such as the Orford Musique, Domaine Forget de Charlevoix, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival and the Vianden International Music Festival in Luxembourg. She has studied with world acclaimed teachers such as Yehonatan Berick, Yosuke Kawasaki, Masao Kawasaki, Jessica Leinenbach, and Jonathan Crow. Currently in her fourth year of the Bachelor of Music Performance program at The Glenn Gould School of Music, she is studying under the tutelage of Mayumi Seiler with full scholarship. In her free time, Alicia enjoys cooking, exploring Toronto, and playing fiddle tunes, which is how she began her journey on the violin.
